DAYS SINCE WE BEGAN THE BARGAINING PROCESS. WE ARE UNITED AND WE WILL MAKE CHANGE.

Airport Standby – Am I required to check out once done?

We have had many members reach out with questions about the requirement to contact crew scheduling at the end of duty periods. With so many new members joining, as well as recent flow through classes, we wanted to make sure everyone is on the same page.

MAINLINE EMPLOYEES:
Checking Out After Airport Standby – You are required to check out with crew scheduling at the end of your Airport Standby period ONLY when on Call-In Reserve.

(Please note: If you are on ready reserve, you are NOT required to check out at the end of your duty period).

B8.27.03.03 When an employee checks in with the Crew Resource Centre following the completion of an assigned pairing, s/he may be awarded another assignment at that time. If such assignment departs at 1200 hours or later the next day, s/he will be released from reserve duty until the required report time of the assigned pairing.

If s/he is not assigned a flight at that time, s/he will be required to contact the Crew Resource Centre upon completion of his/her crew rest or at his/her option at the normal call-in time during his/her crew rest.

B8.30.04 Once an employee on ready reserve has been assigned a pairing, that employee shall not be required to contact the Crew Resource Centre upon completion of that assigned pairing.

***Remember:  Once your duty period is over after any assignment, you are officially on crew rest.

ROUGE EMPLOYEES:
Checking Out After Airport Standby – You are required to check out with crew scheduling at the end of your Airport Standby period.

(Please note: You are NOT required to call crew scheduling to be released after the conclusion of a pairing unless you are on Airport Standby).

***Remember:  Once your duty period is over after any assignment, you are officially on crew rest.

Bargaining Committee Update – 56 – Interest Arbitration Update

As many members are likely aware, the Company and the Union have been working on finding an appropriate Arbitrator to hear the arguments relating to wages coming out of negotiations.

Arbitrator Paula Knopf has been appointed as the Interest Arbitrator for the wage dispute.  You can view her bio HERE https://www.paulaknopf.ca/.

We will be seeking to have our members attend this hearing.

The next step will be for legal counsel to have a case management conference. As part of our goals for case management, we will be seeking to expedite the entire process.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to contact@accomponent.ca  We want to ensure that you have all of the information you need to be fully informed.

**The service specifications may need to be modified for crew to obtain their full 1-hour contractual break/rest times. In such cases, the SD should submit an eOBR simply stating that the service sequence was modified so that the crew can obtain their contractual break/rest times. Ensure to share this OBR with your local union office. If there is a manager onboard, report this service modification to them.

If you are told anything different in respect to contractual crew rest by an Air Canada manager, please share this information with your local union.

What if these flights operate on B777/787 aircraft?
LOU 61 is specific to the A330/A321XLR aircraft, and not applicable to the B777/787. The B777/787 have crew bunks that may be used for crew rest/break purposes.
