Calling applicants for Volunteer CISM Peer Representative positions!

We’re excited to announce that we are calling for applicants who want to be involved as Volunteer CISM Peer Representatives.

The position description is as follows:

CISM Peer Support Team Representatives play an active role in the intervention process. They may also help support and promote the CISM Program. Representatives are selected by, and report directly to, the Coordinator and/or the Coordinator Delegate, under the guidance of the Clinical Director.

Release from flying duties may be required for certain training as well as duties performed during program work, as authorized by the Program Coordinator.

All applicants must participate in a mandatory orientation session. As a result of interest, we will hold two more zooms:

  • 20APR26              12:00-12:45 EDT
  • 21APR26              15:00-15:45 EDT

CISM Peer Support Representative requirements include:

  • A minimum of three (3) continuous years as a cabin crew member in an active cabin crew role.
  • A willingness to engage in volunteerism, including donating time outside of the regular work schedule, for the betterment of the membership-at-large.
  • Successful application, including an interview with the Program Clinician
  • Be a union member in good standing
  • Successful completion of training as per this program:
    • 3-day CISM Training over ZOOM
    • 2-day Suicide Intervention training IN-PERSON (location TBD)
    • E-learning modules (self-paced) for resiliency and diversity.
  • Not hold any management or quasi-management role (terms vary by collective agreement), or other role which could create a conflict of interest.
  • Valid RAIC, Passport valid for a minimum of 6 months, up-to-date cabin crew training, as per the airline of employment, current active status, and/or active payroll.
  • Be deemed fit for the role per the planned review processes outlined in this program. This includes but is not limited to the impact of personal or work situations and how they may affect their capacity to effectively take on critical incident work as well as overall compliance with program guidelines.

Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

  • Update the program coordinator as soon as possible if required personal details per the program manual change or become outdated.
  • Sending any request for CISM peer support to the Program Coordinator per program manual
  • Responding, as assigned by the Program Coordinator, to critical incidents based on ICISF CISM principles, including assisting with assessment of the need for defusing, CISD, individual contacts, family support services, referrals, etc.
  • Collaborating with the CISM Program Coordinator and Program Clinician as required.
  • Leading group interventions and providing individual interventions where appropriate.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality throughout the CISM/support process, per the program code of conduct
  • Attending the mandatory training and the required minimum of CISM group meetings per year.
  • Reporting back on services delivered per the program manual
  • Taking appropriate actions when the limits of their own training, capabilities, program scope and/or resources are exceeded. This includes following protocol for handoffs to qualified professionals and/or other companion programs where appropriate ex. Employee Assistance peer programs.
  • To commit solely to their CISM Program role. The positions can be challenging in many ways, including psychologically as well as in terms of confidentiality. The risks, both personal and professional involved in holding multiple Union roles outweigh the benefits.

(NOTE: At program launch, CISM Program members may occupy dual roles within the union – limited to OHS representative, P2P representative, or shop steward. This exemption will expire 18 months following the program launch, at which point any Volunteer CISM Peer Reps with dual roles must have chosen to fully devote to the ADCP CISM Program or leave the program.)
