B5/LOU28 Crew Rest Bunk Kit Grievances Resolved

The Union has successfully resolved a series of grievances filed between 2022 and 2024 relating to the denial of compensation in situations where crew rest bunk kits were not provided, contrary to Article L28.01 of the Collective Agreement.

The option to sleep during crew break is crucial to the health and wellness of employees, as well as to the safety of the flight.  Without a complete crew bunk kit, crew members have a bare mattress and a pillow to sleep on that have been used by hundreds of flight attendants before them. In order to rest on long flights, crew members have little choice but to use the crew bunk kits in unhygienic conditions. This is not acceptable.

As a result of this settlement, approximately 96 members will receive $100 (less applicable deductions), on a without prejudice basis.  We are pleased that a positive outcome was achieved.

Should your flight have missing or incomplete bunk kits, here is the procedure to follow:

  • SD must call STOC (or overseas station manager) at least 30 minutes prior to departure to request the missing/incomplete bunk kits
  • Complete a CRU Failure Report (ACF623B)
  • ACF623B can be found in the Globe Briefing Package, the Local office, by downloading it from the portal, the Communication Centre, or by clicking HERE.
  • An In-Flight Service Manager’s info and signature is not required, leave that section blank
  • Note in the description of events the request for kits was denied and list the number of missing/incomplete kits
  • List the affected crew members in the appropriate section
  • The report should be scanned and sent Paola.Campacci@aircanada.ca
  • A paper copy of the report may be submitted to the Communications Coordinator to the attention Paola Campacci YYZ, ZIP 2222
  • Provide copies to your Local

It can take some time for an investigation into the incident, so please reach out to your Local if you haven’t heard anything within 3 to 4 weeks.

Also, it is recommended that members take a screenshot of this bulletin (or have a paper copy with you while at work) as a quick reference guide.

In Solidarity,
