DAYS SINCE WE BEGAN THE BARGAINING PROCESS. WE ARE UNITED AND WE WILL MAKE CHANGE.

Bargaining Committee Update – 48

We are hearing from many of you regarding concerns involving pay credits, sick time, mid cycle book offs, vacation, pay protection, draft, per diems, etc…before, during, and after the strike period. We have also heard that some of you received a no show with fault due to the company cancelling pairings prior to the strike. There were other members affected as their credits were not showing properly for what they operated into the strike. It is our understanding that crew members have seen career history coding changes in HR to reflect suspension/strike/illegal strike. In addition, we have been advised that the company is asking for sick notes from members who have been off sick 5 calendar days or more when those days occurred over the strike period. This makes it extremely difficult for the members as they are being asked to provide a doctor’s note after the fact.

It is our position that the Collective Agreement was in place up until August 16th at 00:58. Prior to the strike, the Union attempted numerous times to secure a ramp up/ramp down agreement with Air Canada. They chose instead to directly communicate with the members and advised them that hotels and per diems would be paid but refused to confirm wages when asked by many who reached out copying the union. The Company has since essentially confirmed that they are not paying crew members anything other than per diems and hotel charges for time away over the strike.

In any event, we realize all these scenarios have had an impact on you. We will be reviewing these scenarios and circumstances closely and consulting legal counsel on them all. Our intention is to provide you with more information as soon as it becomes available to us.

Stay strong and in solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee
