COVID-19 – Airline Employment Membership Survey Closes Tomorrow – February 17, 2021

Just a reminder, if you have not already done so, to complete our short survey regarding COVID-19 impacts and employment before it closes tomorrow – Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 11:59pm EST.

You can access the survey here:

https://survey-sondage.cupe.ca/index.php/274114?lang=en

This survey is anonymous, and answers will not identify individuals in any way.

As you are all aware, tens of thousands of flight attendants around the world have been laid off or furloughed.  Some members are currently in the CEWS programs, others are collecting EI benefits. Recall periods for CUPE’s various airline locals range from 2-5 years.  With lengthy recall periods and the lack of information from the government on what supports may be available to workers who may be affected by COVID-19 for periods that stretch past eligible EI periods, CUPE is interested in hearing from you.

CUPE has heard from its airline membership that members are currently exploring temporary options for employment.  CUPE can assist with finding other temporary employment options of interest by working with the government and employers as we are already working on other projects such as: Just Transition, Improving Long Term Care, increasing childcare access, and improving education resources.

Have your voice heard – complete the survey!

To register for one of the sessions please email contact@accomponent.ca with your full name, your base, your employee number, and the date of the session you want to attend.  The schedule is listed below.  These sessions are open to all members, at all bases, of both Mainline and Rouge.

DATE TIME LANGUAGE

To allow as many members as possible to benefit from these sessions, if you have already registered for one of the previous sessions, you will be unable to register for these additional dates.

These sessions will be held via Zoom.  Login information for each session will be sent to those who have registered. There is a maximum of 125 participants per session and the spots will be given out on a first come, first serve basis.

Mitigation Awards & Layoff Notices

The Company has completed the mitigation process and will send out the resulting layoff notices. Please check your Air Canada emails. The results for this round of mitigations are as follows:

Resignation/Retirement  29 Mainline
2-month RBP  36 Mainline
2-month SPLOA  23 Mainline

Following the Mitigation Program, the resulting layoff was 804 Mainline Members. Layoff Notices will be sent to your Air Canada email. We encourage you to reference the layoff notice you receive for any questions regarding the layoff process, benefits, and the returning of your company issued items.

Please be mindful that the numbers quoted above refer to active and inactive members. The most junior member to remain active at mainline has seniority #10315 (2020 Seniority Number).

For those of you awarded an RBP, please be mindful that bidding closes on Wednesday night, so you may wish to adjust your bid based on your reduced blocking window.

Each round of layoffs has been difficult to process and the results of this round are especially so as our active membership has reached a record low, both in numbers and moral.  We are hopeful these layoffs will be temporary, but that does not minimize the impact on those of you affected. Your Union will continue to be here for you.  Please do not hesitate to reach out if you are in need.
