We’re proud and excited to announce that the Airline Division of CUPE has authorized the launch of a Critical Incident and Stress Management (CISM) Program for cabin crew!
This represents a commitment of hundreds of thousands of dollars towards your mental health. It comes after extensive research and collaboration with industry stakeholders in senior management and unions at airlines and organizations throughout North American and Europe.
Our program is built to align with the commitments our carriers have made towards mental health and psychological safety. It follows the industry standard of union-run, airline-supported CISM programs used at almost all North American carriers.
What does this program do for you?
The CISM program will build up your resiliency and ability to cope with stress before a serious incident happens at work. It also provides support where WE REACH OUT, following an event to ensure that you can use those resources and coping tools and ensure your wellbeing.
What this means:
CISM operates in addition / parallel to other support programs that you may have at your airline. These might include Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP / EAP), wellness programs, peer assistance programs etc. These usually require that YOU REACH OUT.
Where are we at with the program rollout?
- Union safety leadership has been trained in CISM.
- Industry consultation and program development is complete.
- A custom cabin-crew version of CISM training has been developed with industry stakeholders.
- We are now hiring a Clinical Director and Program Coordinator.
- Once these positions are filled, we will start training and recruiting CISM Peer Support Representatives for our national team.
- Program launch will occur following team training.
- Discussions with industry stakeholders to integrate CISM programs have already occurred. This will bring you more coverage around the world. We will continue to build on this following the program launch.
How can you help?
Stay tuned for upcoming postings for positions within the CISM Peer Support Team and share with anyone you think might be qualified and interested!
In solidarity,
Your Airline Division Council of Presidents
