Have Your Say: Federal Consultation on Unpaid Work

As you may know, Employment Minister Patty Hajdu has opened a federal consultation on unpaid work in the airline sector. We are encouraging all of our members to take part in this consultation by sending a message to Hajdu’s office outlining how unpaid work affects us as flight attendants every day and encouraging her to take immediate action to legislate the end of unpaid work in our industry. Visit unpaidworkwontfly.ca today to use the letter-writing tool – and make sure to add details about how unpaid work affects you in your day-to-day.

We understand a lot has been asked of you on this issue, but we truly believe now is the time to make positive change on this front, from a government angle, to ensure we are compensated for the time we are in uniform. The government is claiming they are ready to listen, and to take our concerns seriously, we need to ensure they are advised and told, this is the time, we have the strength.

CUPE members are 20,000-strong in the airline sector now. If we speak as one voice, we can achieve monumental change for our industry for years to come.

Govern yourselves accordingly, in solidarity,

Wesley Lesosky
President, Air Canada Component of CUPE
