Membership Update Bulletin – Part 1

Our priority remains ensuring you are informed, supported, and empowered in your workplace. Knowledge of your rights strengthens us all collectively.

We have put together a two-part bulletin with important updates, reminders, and opportunities to connect with your Union at the Executive Level. This is the first installment, and the second installment will be issued on Wednesday.

We are pleased to announce the return of our Quarterly Membership Zoom Meetings, held in conjunction with our ACCEX meetings.

These sessions were highly valued by members, and we are excited to reconnect in this format.

We understand your schedules are busy and unpredictable. These sessions are designed to be flexible and accessible from anywhere as they will be done by Zoom to ensure we have the most impact in reaching you, at all bases, at the same time.  This is open to Mainline and Rouge members, from all bases.

YOUR RIGHT TO MEETING COMPENSATION

Minimum 3 Hours Pay Applies

If you are required to attend ANY meeting with the Company, you are to be paid a minimum of 3 hours.

This Includes:

  • HRHO meetings
  • Investigation meetings
  • In-person meetings for performance
  • In-person meetings for attendance related issues
  • Any other required meeting with the employer

Key Takeaway
Under the Canada Labour Code, you are entitled to a minimum of three (3) hours of pay when reporting for such meetings.

Reporting Pay (11.1)
Employees reporting to work at the employer’s request must be paid no less than three hours at their regular rate.

What You Should Do
Before attending any meeting, it is important that you contact your Local Union to confirm your rights to representation and to clarify any concerns you may have at the onset.  This will also ensure that you will receive proper compensation.

DEADHEADING (DH) SEATING – KNOW YOUR ENTITLEMENTS

Following the latest round of bargaining, improvements to Deadhead Seating Priority are now in effect (Appendix XXVIII).

Your Entitlements at Time of Booking

  • Economy Positive Space (PY1) with upgrades to highest class (J, then O)
  • Seat priority:
    1. Aisle
    2. Window
    3. Middle
  • Zone 3 boarding

Important Clarification
These entitlements are based on availability at the time the reservation is created.

If changes are made to your assigned seating, after check in, please report these to the Union for review and investigation.

BEREAVEMENT LEAVE WHAT YOU ARE (AND ARE NOT) REQUIRED TO PROVIDE

We have received reports of improper requests for documentation.

Important

You are NOT required to provide:

  • Funeral cards
  • Obituaries
  • Additional proof

What IS Required

Written notice including:

  • Start date
  • Reason
  • Length of leave

This aligns with both company policy and the Canada Labour Code.

We have been assured these improper requests will cease and will continue monitoring. If management requests more than this, please contact your Local Union prior to submitting documentation.

RETURN-TO-WORK DELAYS OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SERVICES

We are investigating delays in members being cleared to return to work due to Occupational Health Services availability.

Have You Been Affected?

You may have experienced:

  • Delayed clearance from OHS
  • Loss of pay due to a delay from OHS clearing you
  • Other negative impacts, financially or otherwise

We are compiling a report to address this with the employer.
