DAYS SINCE WE BEGAN THE BARGAINING PROCESS. WE ARE UNITED AND WE WILL MAKE CHANGE.

National Indigenous History Month 2025

June marks National Indigenous History Month, a time to honour and celebrate the history, culture, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

As union members, we recognize the importance of truth-telling, listening, and taking meaningful action toward reconciliation. We acknowledge that the Air Canada Component of CUPE, as well as the Local offices across the country, operate on the traditional, unceded territories of many Indigenous Nations. This month – and every month – we commit to learning and standing in solidarity with Indigenous Peoples in their ongoing struggles for justice, sovereignty, and healing.

Today, on June 21st, we observe National Indigenous Peoples Day, a time to come together in celebration of the unique heritage, traditions, and diverse cultures of Indigenous Peoples. It is also a moment for reflection — to listen, learn, and uplift Indigenous voices. Whether attending a community event, engaging with Indigenous-led initiatives, or sharing space in ceremony and celebration, we encourage all members to participate meaningfully in this day of recognition.

This month, we reflect and act by learning about the rich and diverse cultures of Indigenous Peoples, acknowledging the truths of residential schools and the lasting impacts of colonialism, supporting Indigenous-led organizations, artists, and businesses, and engaging with the 94 Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Reconciliation is not a one-time gesture – it’s an ongoing process grounded in respect, education, and action. We encourage all members to use this month as an opportunity to deepen their understanding, have conversations, and support the work of Indigenous justice.

In solidarity,
