Each year on the last Wednesday of February, we recognize Pink Shirt Day, a global movement that promotes kindness, inclusion, and anti-bullying efforts in schools, workplaces, and communities. This day serves as a powerful reminder that we all have a role to play in creating a culture of respect and empathy.
Pink Shirt Day began in 2007 in Nova Scotia, Canada, when two high school students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, took a stand against bullying. After witnessing a fellow student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt, they purchased and distributed pink shirts to their classmates in solidarity. Their simple yet powerful act sparked a global movement, inspiring millions to wear pink and stand up against bullying.
Bullying affects people of all ages, leading to emotional distress, anxiety, and decreased self-esteem. By promoting kindness and inclusion, we help foster safe environments where everyone feels valued and respected. Whether in school, at work, or online, standing up against bullying is crucial in building a more compassionate society.
We can make a difference together—one act of kindness at a time.
