I’ll put it plainly: Canada’s workers are under attack.
For the past few years, we’ve faced one crisis after another. A health crisis. Inflation. Tariffs. Job losses. Cuts to the services that we rely on.
While families struggle to afford daily essentials, CEOs are clinking glasses to toast massive profits and bigger bonuses.
But they want even more, so they’re lobbying the government to strip away workers’ bargaining power.
At the heart of this is our right to strike, one of the most powerful tools workers have to fight back against big corporations.
Using Section 107 of the Labour Code, the government has already stepped in to interfere in legal strikes before workers could negotiate a fair deal. We’ve seen it used against flight attendants, postal workers, and thousands of other workers fighting for decent pay and safe working conditions.
Now, the government wants to go even further by changing the rules to make it harder for workers to strike in the first place.
The government is showing whose side it is really on. Weakening rights for some workers sets a dangerous precedent for all of us. If big corporations get their way, it will make it harder for workers to secure wages that keep up. Harder for parents to negotiate better hours. Harder for families to build decent lives.
Not on our watch.
