Trip Hour Guarantee (THG)

(For Mainline Members only)

Dear Mainline Members,

In 2015, the Union negotiated an improvement to the Trip Hour Guarantee (THG) provision in the Collective Agreement as follows:

6.03.03 Trip Hour Guarantee – An employee on a legal layover away from home base shall receive a trip hour guarantee based on the greater of scheduled or actual, calculated from either the actual commencement of the initial duty period at home to the actual termination of the last duty period at home base prior to a legal rest period, or calculated from the scheduled commencement of the initial duty period at home base to the scheduled termination of the last duty period at home base prior to a legal rest period.

6.03.03.01 General – The trip hour guarantee shall be one (1) hour flight time credit for each four (4) hours of the total trip time prorated.

6.03.03.02 A319, A320, A321, E175, E190 – Where the total trip time is forty-eight (48) hours or more on A320, A319, A321, E175, E190 aircraft, the trip hour guarantee shall be one (1) hour flight time credit for each three hours and thirty minutes (3:30) prorated.

NOTE: Where any of the operational flight time in a mixed aircraft pairing is A319, A320, A321, E175, E190 the above trip hour guarantee will apply.

After the Union established its pay committee in 2024, it came to the Union’s attention that members were not automatically being paid the greater of scheduled or actual THG credits.  The Union was advised that the netline system was NOT programmed to capture the greater credit and was only capturing the actual THG credit. The Union then asked if an alternate process was put in place to track this entitlement and manually pay it out, and was told that there was no such process in place and that only those members who eclaimed would be paid out.  After numerous discussions and requests for updates on the programming of the system to properly capture and pay this out and seeing that there was no estimated timeline for any programming fix or alternate manual process to be established anytime soon, the Union decided to file three grievances on this matter to cover the last ten (10) years. Click HERE to view. It is completely UNACCEPTABLE that many members have lost out on this entitlement for the last TEN (10) years.

We are asking that members submit pay claims if they notice that they were not paid out the greater of scheduled or actual THG credits on their pairings, and to forward the eclaim and scheduled and actual pairing details to i.jovic@accomponent.ca to add to our grievance files. Please also forward any denied eclaims with the scheduled and actual pairing details also to i.jovic@accomponent.ca Please ensure to add “THG grievance” in the subject line when sending information.

If you were denied payment after submitting an eclaim, please contact your local Union representatives to see if an individual grievance should be filed on your behalf. See an example below to demonstrate THG.

You may see THG credits on pairings when the TAFB (Time away from base) divided by 4 (or 3:30 for narrowbody) results in a greater overall pairing credit.  If you notice that your final THG credits are less than what they were scheduled after completing your pairing, you should be claiming that difference. If you are unsure whether you should be submitting a claim, you can always ask your local Union office representatives for assistance.

In Solidarity,
