To ensure transparency and clarity around the proposed changes to the Air Canada Component Bylaws, we are pleased to share a side-by-side comparison document. This chart outlines each proposed amendment alongside the current language, with an explanation of the rationale behind each change.
Bylaws are the foundation of how we operate as a Union. Any amendment can affect governance, representation, and how decisions are made. It is important that all members understand not just what is changing, but why.
We encourage all members to review this document carefully and reach out with any questions or feedback.
Question 1): Do you support the proposed change of the Air Canada Component Bylaws Section 8.4.1 Local Budgets? YES/NO
| Current Language: | Proposed Language: |

8.4.1 Local Budgets:
The ACC shall remit the monthly budget for each Local. Three thousand, two hundred and fifty dollars ($3,250.00) base amount plus eight dollars ($8.00) per dues paying member. The ACC shall remit an additional monthly budget for each Local with less than five hundred (500) members three thousand dollars ($3,000.00) a month. |
Rationale for the change:
- To provide more equitable and adequate funding to all Locals.
- Three Locals now have more than 2,000 members. Under the current formula, these Locals would receive $31,800 less per year.
- The workload continues to increase across all Locals, with a growing number of disciplinary meetings, grievances, and terminations.
- Adequate financial resources are essential to ensure effective representation and support for all members.
Question 2): Do you support the proposed changes of the Air Canada Component Bylaws Section 9 – Component Committees? YES/NO
| Current Language: | Proposed Language: |
| 9.1 (a) Component Pink Triangle Committee: – Chairperson(s), and – Additional members as required. 9.1 (i) Component Women’s Committee: 9.1 (j) Component Worker’s Compensation Committee: |
• Remove section 9.1(a) Pink Triangle Committee
• Remove section 9.1(i) Women’s Committee • Remove section 9.1(j) Worker’s Compensation. |
Rationale for the change:
- Move the Pink Triangle and Women’s Committees under the umbrella of the Diversity Committee.
- Diversity embraces the presence of differences among individuals such as age, gender, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, and education.
- A more diverse committee allows for stronger engagement and broader, more inclusive discussions.
- A Component-level Worker’s Compensation Committee is no longer necessary.
- Each province has its own legislation for Worker’s Compensation, making it more effective for these matters to be addressed at the Local level.
- Local representatives are better positioned to navigate the specific laws and systems in their province.
