WIP Contribution Holiday, Late Claims and LOAs

The WIP Board of Trust would like to wish you a wonderful holiday season. The  Board of Trustee would like to inform you that a contribution holiday will be applied to the December earnings. What this means is, the fund will cover the payment for WIP, off your December earnings. This will be apparent on the January 17 pay summary.

Manion has advised there has been a significant increase in late claim applications which may result in your WIP claim being denied.

*You have 30 days from the first day of work missed to submit your WIP application to Manion Wilkins acclaims@manionwilkins.com.

Please be aware that Air Canada’s absentee reporting team reviews absences daily. Air Canada monitors the 30 days to apply for WIP, to see if members will be contractually ineligible for WIP due to an LOA of 16 or more days.

*If you have not prepaid for an LOA, then book-off and are contractually ineligible for WIP, Air Canada will contact you via your corporate email with any requests for information to establish your cause of absence.

LOA 16 OR MORE DAYS AND PREPAYMENT TO ENSURE CONTINUATION OF COVERAGE, SHOULD YOU BOOK-OFF UPON RETURN TO WORK
You will not be eligible for benefit consideration when you are due to return to work for a total disability that occurred during an LOA or suspension unless you have elected to keep your coverage in force during the leave of absence, layoff or suspension by prepaying to establish continuation of coverage.

*Please refer to the Continuation of Coverage During Absence from the Work section of the WIP Policy Booklet, attached HERE.

Prepayment of premiums is not required for an absence from the payroll of 15 calendar days or less. Prepayment of premiums is required for an absence from the payroll of 16 or more calendar days for one of the following reasons. You must prepay the required premium in full within 30 days of the commencement of the LOA to be eligible for benefit consideration immediately following the end of any of these periods:

If your leave of absence of 16 or more calendar days precedes your vacation and you have not prepaid the premium for that leave of absence in accordance with the Continuation of Coverage During Absence From Work section, coverage will not be reinstated until you return to active work. No prepayment of premiums is required when you are absent from work due to vacation.

Manion’s contact centre number for prepayment inquiries 1-866-532-8999. Please identify yourself as an Air Canada flight attendant and ask to make arrangements to prepay for a LOA. Should you encounter any problems please advise Patricia Eberley.
