Air Canada advised the Union that pursuant to its new “Policy on Alcohol and Drugs”, it would always test by breathalyzer, saliva, and urine, for a broad range of substances, regardless of the basis for requesting testing, and whether there was reasonable cause to test for multiple substances. Today, the Union filed a grievance challenging the employer’s procedure. A copy of the grievance is attached, click HERE to view. Given the harm to employee privacy interests, we plan to address this issue with our Chief Arbitrator as soon as possible.
