Bargaining Committee Update #4

In our last update, on May 24, 2019, we advised that the Union’s legal counsel had sent a letter to Air Canada requesting the postponement of negotiations, until the 30-day Exclusivity Agreement with Air Transat expires.

Since then, the Company has replied to our request and have agreed to postpone negotiations until August or September 2019.  Because of the uniqueness of this situation, the Company has also agreed to extend the 90-day period set-out in paragraph 4(b) of the 2015 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA).  Therefore, the 90-day period will now commence on the first day the parties meet following the conclusion of the 30-day extension period.

Under the circumstances, this is the best option to allow for further details to come to light concerning the potential acquisition of Air Transat by Air Canada.  This will also provide greater transparency, and allow for your Bargaining Committee to negotiate and achieve a better outcome for our members in this reopener.

Your Bargaining Committee remains committed to the process and, as things unfold, we will continue to provide updates.
