Meal Allowances – Me Too Policy Grievance

On October 24, 2024, the Union reached out to the employer requesting Article 7.02.04 be followed, this article is the me-too provision ensuring that Cabin Personnel are not paid lower meal allowances than pilots.

We were clear in our position when we wrote to Air Canada,  “Air Canada is required to increase the meal allowances paid to Cabin Personnel, it is required to do so effective the date the increased meal allowances were paid to Pilots, and when it makes further increases to meal expenses paid to Pilots, it is also required to further increase meal expenses paid to Cabin Personnel.”

Following this, Air Canada has advised in writing “…the Company’s position is that Article 7.02.04 of the CUPE Collective Agreement does not apply as there is no longer a direct comparison for meal allowances with the new ALPA Collective Agreement.”

The Union has filed grievances at both Air Canada (Click here) and Air Canada Rouge (Click here).

We will continue to provide updates as we move through the grievance process.

In Solidarity,

Wesley Lesosky
President, Air Canada Component of CUPE
