Please CLICK HERE to access a PDF package that provides copies of all the agreed to items and the interest arbitration award for the 2019 Re-Opener.

We are actively discussing the implementation of each new item and will provide updates as they become available. We are also working with the Company to make the necessary adjustment to the Collective Agreement. One Item that the Company was able to partially implement for the July 2022 Block month relates to Rouge Reserve Blocks. Full Reserve Blocks will be implemented next month along with the additional days off, crew rest, and monthly pay guarantee.

Now that you have the information about what was agreed to or awarded in the 2019 Re-Opener we will be sending out information about the second part of the 2022 Bargaining Survey tomorrow and can then move forward with negotiations.

Crew Rest Committee Update – June 2022

Crew Rest Unit Failure And Missing / Incomplete Bunk Kit Reporting

(This applies to Air Canada Mainline only)

Dear members,

In March 2019, the Component Crew Rest Committee issued a bulletin regarding the procedures to follow when submitting a Crew Rest Unit (CRU) Failure Report (ACF623B). There have been some changes to the procedure. When submitting an ACF623B report for a CRU failure or missing/incomplete crew bunk kit(s), the Service Director must:

  • Complete the CRU Failure Report (ACF623B).  An In-Flight Service Base Manager’s information / signature is no longer required.  Leave that section of the report blank
  • When completing the ACF623B for an INOP or failure of a CRU/OFAR, take a photo if possible, of the completed Cabin Defect Log entry for your records
  • When completing the ACF623B for missing / incomplete crew bunk kit(s) indicate in the “description of events” section the total number of missing / incomplete bunk kits.  List the affected crew members in the appropriate section.  **Please ensure you have called STOC at least 30 minutes prior to departure to request the missing crew bunk kits and note that the request was denied in the “description of events” section
  • The report should be scanned and sent to Paola.Campacci@aircanada.ca within a recommended time frame of 10 days
  • A paper copy of the report may be submitted to the Communications Centre Coordinator to the attention of Paola Campacci YYZ ZIP 2222
  • Provide copies to your Local Union Office and Component Crew Rest Committee
  • ACF623B is no longer found in the flight satchel however can be found in the Globe Briefing Package, Local Union Offices, and Communication Centres (ask the Coordinator on duty)
  • An In-Flight Service Report (eOBR) is no longer required to accompany any CRU Failure Report

National Indigenous Peoples Day

On June 21, 1996, National Indigenous Peoples Day was formally recognized in Canada — paving the way for all Canadians, whether indigenous or non-indigenous, to fully explore and celebrate the distinct cultures and unique traditions of the Inuit, First Nations, and Metis people.

In a recent article about National Indigenous Peoples Day, award-winning author Eden Robinson was quoted as saying:

“The last couple of years have been difficult. Not just with COVID, but I’m thinking particularly about the 215 children found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School.  When people talk about us or when they talk to us, these are the stories that they bring up. They bring up our deepest grief and trauma. So, what I like about Indigenous Day is that people are celebrating our cultures, they’re celebrating our communities.  We ourselves are celebrating the things that bring us joy, and usually that’s our heritage. I know that last year was exceptionally hard, and no one really felt like celebrating, but we have an infinite capacity for joy.”

While there is much work to be done on the road to reconciliation, today is a day to recognize the many achievements of Canada’s Indigenous people.  It is a celebratory event, a day to share and honour the indigenous culture.
