days until our Collective Agreement expires, we are preparing, we are united and we will make change.

Component Mobile App Update

Thank you to the members who pointed out that the mobile app resources were not available in an offline mode. This is clearly of importance to our members given the nature of our work. We communicated this to our mobile app provider, and they have advised us that this issue has been resolved.

To initiate the offline option, we ask those members who have the app to update it. You will need to go to the Google/Apple app store and update it to the newest version. The next step is to open the app. You will then see the following notification:

Please follow the directions in this notification.  You should then be able to download the resources for offline use. We are asking members to provide their feedback on this process and the mobile app overall.  If you have any suggestions, we look forward to hearing from you. Please email us at contact@accomponent.ca. It is our goal to make this app as easy to use as possible for the membership.

For those who have not yet downloaded the new Component app, you can find it here:

Management Discussions

We wanted to send a reminder to all members, Air Canada Mainline and Air Canada Rouge, about their right to Union representation. In any circumstances in which you are approached or receive a call from your manager or a representative of the Company, you are entitled to Union representation.

For our Mainline Members, the language states:

14.02  During an interview between the Company and the employee, and where disciplinary action is contemplated, or where a performance meeting is held, the employee may request the presence of a Union representative.

For our Rouge Members, the language states:

L55.20.03 During an interview between the Company and the Employee where disciplinary action is contemplated, or where a performance meeting is held, the employee may request the presence of a Union representative.

As you can see the Collective Agreement language is the same for both groups. Keep in mind that you are the one who should be requesting Union representation. Please do this as soon as you are made aware of a need for it.

This is your right, and must be respected.  If you request a Union Representative and it is denied, please immediately advise the Union without delay.

These seminars are intended to educate our members in the language of our Collective Agreement as it relates to block rules and some of the contract intricacies.

We know that there are members who have asked how this language applies in simple terms. This we hope will give them a deeper knowledge and understanding of contract language applications so that they can address Crew Scheduling or management and know their rights under the CA.

If there is time at the end of each presentation, we will be able to take questions related to the materials presented.  As always, any questions or concerns can be emailed directly to your local union representatives for follow up.

We will be serving coffee and tea and pastries at each session. In order to plan for the number of attendees we ask that members who will be attending fill out the form in the link below:

We are very excited about this initiative and hope that it sheds some light on contract language and provides you with the confidence required to assert your rights.

Launch of New Mobile App

We are pleased to announce that we have relaunched our mobile app. This was a long-involved process in which we sought out an appropriate company to do this work and we worked with Google and Apple to get the app off the ground.

We did get positive feedback about the previous mobile app, and we have redesigned the new app with your feedback in mind. This launch is a part of our short and long-term plans to reach you in the most effective way possible.   One of the new additions to our app is the ability to store information in an offline mode. That way, if you are not able to access Wi-Fi you can still save valuable documents offline and consult them in a pinch.

See below for links to our new mobile app in the app store:

As we have noted in the past, knowledge is power. It is cliché and a time worn adage, but it holds true even today.  We sincerely believe that when our members are well informed it gives them confidence to challenge some of the misinformation that is shared with them and to think critically.  An educated and informed collective holds a great deal of strength.  If you have ideas of your own about how we can communicate better, we would love to hear from you.  Please provide frank feedback about this new app. We want it to be an effective tool and an integral part of our communication strategy. If you are not yet subscribed to our bulletins, please write to us at contact@accomponent.ca.
