PBS: Dual Classification Bidding

(This applies to Air Canada Mainline only)

During last month’s awards we discovered a few quirks for crew members bidding in both SD and FA classifications. There are ways to circumvent the problems and below are the step-by-step instructions.

In this bulletin:

     Step-by-step instructions when:

  • SD Default Bid Erased – New UI
  • SD Default Bid Erased – Old UI
  • Specific Pairing Number not showing – New UI
  • Bidding by Specific Pairing Number – Old UI

Having crew members bid both classifications is not new but we have not seen it in a long time. Currently, when an SD is awarded a block as an FA, their SD seniority number must be removed from their profile. When the qualification is put back for the next month’s bid, the SD default bid is lost. We are working on the development of a process within PBS that would no longer require this manual modification and thereby solve the problem.

The other issue is that pairings for one crew member (1P or 1FA only) may not be showing in the drop-down menu under the Pairing Number and the Pairing Number Departing On options. The software provider was able to identify the problem and it will be fixed in the next system update.

For the time being, there are work arounds. Please refer to the following illustrated step-by-step instructions in both the Old and the New UI.
