days until our Collective Agreement expires, we are preparing, we are united and we will make change.

A Message From Your Component Officers

In recent days there have been reports coming from within the membership of conflict and difficult conversations happening in the workplace and beyond. We have also witnessed some of this on social media platforms. We understand that these times are incredibly challenging and that so many members have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in both their professional and personal lives. We encourage all members to reach out to EAP for resources if they find that they are overwhelmed.

In times like these we should remember that our greatest strength is in the power of our collective.  We understand that all members come from diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The key is to learn to find a common thread and to work to find a way forward through mutual respect.

There are many days ahead in which your executive will continue to put their own personal perspectives aside in order to do what is right for the membership as a whole.  We will always remember the importance of solidarity and though it seems like just a concept, it is a living and breathing thing that we will protect and draw strength from.

Seniority List Update – March 5, 2021 / Mise à jour de la liste d’ancienneté – 5 mars 2021

Please see this month’s Seniority List Update. As previously mentioned, we will resume more regular updates when recalls resume, hopefully in the near future.

Updated Seniority List
Your Union has updated the seniority list with the most recent layoffs and retirements using information provided by Air Canada. We have added Employee numbers to the list based on membership feedback. The list is still based on your 2020 Master Cabin Personnel Seniority number, as the 2021 Seniority numbers are not final until the process outlined in Article 16.08 is complete.

*** Please note there may be errors or omissions, if you are aware of any please contact your union. You will also note that those members on leaves but senior enough to avoid layoff will be coded as Active ***

Click HERE for an Updated Seniority List as of the March 2021 Block Month.

Retirements
In addition, please see the current retirement numbers below.  You can also view full details over the past three years by clicking HERE.

Reserve Handbook

As many of you have not flown reserve in several years, we felt it was a good time to issue a refresher with the Reserve Handbook and its updates.

Letter to Prime Minister Trudeau

For several months I have been writing to members of the Provincial and Federal governments imploring them to classify Flight Attendants as “those contributing to the maintenance of other essential services for the functioning of society” and “those whose living or working conditions put them at elevated risk of infection” under the government’s Preliminary guidance on key populations for early COVID-19 immunization.

With the exception of a few of replies outlining general provincial and territorial vaccination plans, these letters have largely gone unanswered.

My letters, and the few responses I have received, can be viewed by clicking HERE.

Today I wrote to Prime Minister Trudeau reminding him of the important contributions and sacrifices that Flight Attendants have made throughout this pandemic, and why it is so important for them to be protected with vaccines while they continue to go to work every day.

Layoff Notices – Cancellation of 129 Layoff Notices

The Company has advised the Union that they are in a position to rescind 129 layoff notices that were to take effect March 2, 2021. The cancellations of these layoffs will occur in seniority order and individuals will receive notice in their Air Canada emails.

Members whose layoff has been cancelled will fall into one of the four categories below:

  1. Members who were already on a mitigation SPLOA or RBP will have their layoff cancelled and return to their mitigation SPLOA or RBP.
  2. Members who bid on a mitigation SPLOA or RBP during the latest mitigation award will have their layoff cancelled and be awarded the mitigation option that they bid on.
  3. Members who were on a COVID-19 leave or other leave will have their layoff cancelled and remain on their respective leave.
  4. Members who otherwise would have been active for March 2021 will have their layoff cancelled and will receive information from Crew Planning on how to bid for a pre-built reserve block for the March 2021 block month.

For those members who have had their layoff cancelled you are also now eligible to be awarded vacation during the second bid period which closes on March 2, 2021 at 0800 EST.

As a result of these cancellations, the most junior member to remain active for March 2021 has seniority #10980, based on the posted 2020 Seniority Numbers on aeronet.
